Bhagavadgíta,-साङ्ख्ययोगः sámkhjajóga, (S.-1, Ch.-2, V.-7)

कार्पण्यदोषोपहतस्वभावः पृच्छामि त्वां धर्मसम्मूढचेताः । यच्छ्रेयः स्यान्निश्चितं ब्रूहि तन्मे शिष्यस्तेऽहं शाधि मां त्वां प्रपन्नम् ॥२- ७॥

kārpaṇyadoṣopahatasvabhāvaḥ pṛcchāmi tvāṃ dharmasammūḍhacetāḥ । yacchreyaḥ syānniścitaṃ brūhi tanme śiṣyaste'haṃ śādhi māṃ tvāṃ prapannam ॥2- 7॥



कार्पण्य kārpaṇya (n.), = poorness of spirit, pity.; दोषो dosa (m.), = wrong, weakness, sin.; उपहत upahata (p. pass. participle upa .*han), = damaged, afflicted, overcome, discour-aged.; स्वभावः svabhavas (nom. sg.), = own being. (kārpaṇyadoṣopahatasvabhāvaḥ, nom. sg. BY cpd., = whose own being was overcome by the weakness of pity.); पृच्छामि pṛcchāmi (1st sg. pr. indic. act. .*prach) , I ask, I pray.; त्वां tvam (acc. sg.), = thee, to thee.; धर्म dharma (m.), = duty, right, law.; सम्मूढ sammūḍha (p. pass. participle sam .*muh) , = uncertain, confused, bewildered, crazed.; चेताः cetāḥ (n. nom. sg.), thoughts, heart, mind. (dharmasammūḍhacetāḥ, n. nom. sg. BY cpd., whose mind is confused as to duty.);  यद yad (n. nom. sg.), = which, what.; च्छ्रेयः sreya (comparative), = better, preferable.; स्यात syāt (3rd sg. optative .Jas), it should be. न्निश्चितं ni§citam (adv.), for certain, without doubt,surely. ब्रूहि bruhi (2nd sg. imperative act. *bru), = say! tell!; तद tad (n. acc. sg.), = this, that.;तन्मे me (dat. sg.), = to me.; शिष्य śiṣya(yas (m. nom. sg.), = pupil, student.te (gen. sg.), of thee.; ऽहं aham (nom. sg.), = I; शाधि śādhi (2nd sg. imperative act. .*adh), correct! order!; मां mam (acc. sg.), me.; त्वां tvam (acc. sg.), thee, of thee.; प्रपन्नम् prapannam (acc. sg. p. pass. participle pra.*pad), fallen before the feet, suppliant.



Therefore O Lord! Guided by the act of cowardliness and smitten by the
words of Dharma, I ask unto you to show me the right path. Please teach me
as I am your disciple and have come in shelter to you. ||2-7||
