सञ्जय उवाच तं तथा कृपयाविष्टमश्रुपूर्णाकुलेक्षणम् । विषीदन्तमिदं वाक्यमुवाच मधुसूदनः ॥२- १॥ |
sañjaya uvāca taṃ tathā kṛpayāviṣṭamaśrupūrṇākulekṣaṇam । viṣīdantamidaṃ vākyamuvāca madhusūdanaḥ ॥2- 1॥ |
तं tam (m. acc. sg.), = him, to him.; तथा tatha, = thus, in this way, also, as; कृपया kṛpayā (f. inst. sg.), = by pity, by; अविष्टम avistam (m. acc. sg. p. pass.-*vis) , = taken possession of, well. sorrow. participle a fallen into, overcome by.; अश्रु asru (n.), = tear.; पूर्ण pūrṇā (p. pass. participle .*pr), = filled with, full of.; अकुल akula (adj.), = downcast, disturbed.; एक्षणम् iksanam (n. acc. sg. from .*iks), = eye. (aśrupūrṇākulekṣaṇam n. acc. sg. BV cpd., whose eyes were filled with tears and down-cast.); विषीदन्तम viṣīdantam (n. acc. sg. pr. participle vi .*sad), = despairing, desponding, dejected. इदम idam (n. acc. sg.), = this.; वाक्यम vakyam (n. acc. sg.), = word, speech.; उवाच uvaca (3rd sg. perf. act. .*vac), = he said, he spoke.; मधुसूदनः madhusūdanaḥ (m. nom. sg.), = Slayer of Madhu, epithet of Krishna referring to Vishnu-Krishna's slaying of the demon Madhu. |
Sanjaya said: Madhusudana addressed the following words to Arjuna, who
was sad and his eyes were filled with tears of compassion. ||2-1||
[Madhusudana is Lord Sri Krishna, who killed the demon named Madhu.]
