sādhibhūtādhidaivaṃ māṃ sādhiyajñaṃ ca ye viduḥ । prayāṇakāle'pi ca māṃ te viduryuktacetasaḥ ॥ 7-30॥ |
To realize Brahma is to realize Brahma even at the moment of death. |
sa- (prefix), with, along with. mām (acc. sg.), me.; ca, and.; |
Those who know Me as the Supreme Lord, as the master of material
manifestation, as the master or base of all the celestials (demigods, even
Brahma), and as the maintainer of all actions and happenings; such intelligent-minded
persons even know Me or realize Me at the time of death. ||7-30||
If we understand this verse, then we will have need of nothing else.
The entire seventh chapter informs us that our personal sense of agency is an illusion.
If we imagine a mill that is horse-powered, where horses move in a circle and pull the weights that grind and produce oil, for example, then we can imagine a little dog coming and walking along with the horses and imagining that he is actually doing something to produce the oil even though he is pulling no weight. That dog is like our ego, we imagine we are doing something when all of the movement of life is done by Brahma.
This sutra describes the time of death. This is a moment of decision as to what will happen in the future. Every action that happens has already been chosen before it is enacted. There is no action taken without the pre-decision to act. This means that the decisions made in the last moments of life determine the future. That is the key to this sutra.
The force that drives life is immortal. Existence is eternal. Nothing belongs to the personal ego.
All of our actions are the work of Brahma. Just as our cells create and serve our bodies, our existences create and serve the flow of the Universe.
Liberation can happen at any moment, once we stop believing in the ego and "I-me-mine".
Each step that is taken is the result of a preceding decision.
