| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-34) |
चञ्चलं हि मनः कृष्ण प्रमाथि बलवद् दृढम् ।तस्याहं निग्रहं मन्ये वायोरिव सुदुष्करम् ॥ ६-३४॥ |
cañcalaṃ hi manaḥ kṛṣṇa pramāthi balavad dṛḍham । tasyāhaṃ nigrahaṃ manye vāyoriva suduṣkaram ॥ 6-34॥ |
चञ्चलं = cañcalaṃ (n. nom. sg.), unstable, unsteady, wandering.; हि = hi, indeed, truly.; मनः = manaḥ (n. nom. acc. sg.), mind.; कृष्ण = kṛṣṇa (m. voc. sg.), Krishna.; प्रमाथि = pramāthi (n. nom. sg.), troubling, harassing, destroying.; बलवद् = balavat (n. nom. sg.), powerful, strong.; दृढम् = dṛḍham (n. nom. sg.), intense, hard, fixed, massive, unyielding.; तस्य = tasya (n. gen. sg.), of it, of this.; अहम = aham (nom. sg.), I.; निग्रहं = nigrahaṃ (m. acc. sg. noun from ni *grah), keeping back, restraining, suppression, subjugation.; मन्ये = manye (1st sg. pr. indic. mid . *man), I think, I believe.; वायु = vāy (m. gen. sg.), of the wind.; इव = iva, like.; सुदुष्करम् = suduṣkaram (n. acc. sg.), difficult to do, hard to achieve, hard to bring about. |
Arjuna said: O Madhusudana! This yoga of equanimity taught by You seems impossible to be perceived by me because the mind being restless and unsteady cannot remain constant for a longer period of time. O Krishna! The mind is restless, unsteady, turbulent, firm, and very strong. Therefore for me to control it, it seems as difficult as controlling the wind. ||6-33, 34||
