| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-9) |
सुहृन्मित्रार्युदासीनमध्यस्थद्वेष्यबन्धुषु ।साधुष्वपि च पापेषु समबुद्धिर्विशिष्यते ॥ ६-९॥ |
suhṛnmitrāryudāsīnamadhyasthadveṣyabandhuṣu । sādhuṣvapi ca pāpeṣu samabuddhirviśiṣyate ॥ 6-9॥ |
सुहृ = 'suhṛ (m.), friend, companion.; मित्र mitra (m.), associate, companion.; अरि ari (m.), enemy.; उदासीन = udāsīna (m. pro participle ud *as), sittin apart, free from affection or hatred, impar-tial, disinterested, dispassionate, in-dif-ferent.; मध्यस्थ = madhyastha (m.), standing in the middle,neutral.; द्वेष् dveṣ (m.), enemy, foe.; बन्धु bandhu (m.), kinsman, friend. companion. (suhṛnmitrāryudāsīnamadhyasthadveṣyabandhuṣu, m. loco pI., impartial toward friend, companion and enemy, and neutral among enemies and kinsmen.); साधु = sādhuṣ~u (m. loco pl.), among the good, among the righteous.; अपि = api, also, even.; च = ca, and.; पापेषु = pāpeṣu (m. loco pl.), among the sinful, among the evil ones.; समबुद्धि = samabuddhis (f. nom. sg.), impartial minded, (as B V cpd.) he who is of impartial insight.; र्विशिष्यते = viśiṣyate (3rd sg. pro indic. mid. vi *śiṣ), he is to be distinguished, he is preeminent. |
A person who treats a well-wisher, friend, enemy, impartial, mediator, hater, relatives, saints, and even sinners, as indifferent and equal is recognized as fully advanced. ||6-9||
