| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-3) |
स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योगः प्रोक्तः पुरातनः । भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् ॥ ४-३॥ |
sa evāyaṃ mayā te'dya yogaḥ proktaḥ purātanaḥ । bhakto'si me sakhā ceti rahasyaṃ hyetaduttamam ॥ 4-3॥ |
स = sas (m. nom. sg.), it, this.; एव = eva, indeed (often used as a rhythmic filler).; आयाम = ayam (m. nom. sg.), this.; मयाम = maya (inst. sg.), by me.; ते = te (dat. sg.), to thee.; ऽद्य = adya, today, now, nowadays.; योगः = yogas (m. nom. sg.), Yoga.; प्रोक्तः = proktas (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle pra *vac) , declared, proclaimed, described, imparted.; पुरातनः = puratanas (m. nom. sg.), ancient, primaeval, of olden times.; भक्त = bhaktas (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle *bhaj) , devoted, worshipped, shared, de-votee.; ऽसि = asi (2nd sg. pr. indic. *as), thou art.; मे = me (gen. sg.), of me.; सखा = sakha (m. nom. sg.), comrade, friend.; च = ca, and.; इति = iti, thus, so.; रहस्यं = rahasyam (n. nom. sg.), private, secret, eso-teric teaching.; हि = hi, indeed, truly.; एतद = etad (n. nom. sg.), this.; उत्तमम् = uttamam (n. nom. sg.), supreme. |
You are my dearest friend and devotee. Therefore, I have instructed you
today, the same ancient and excellent science of yoga, which is the supreme
secret. ||4-3||
