| Bhagavadgíta,-साङ्ख्ययोगः sámkhjajóga, (S.-1, Ch.-2, V.-15) |
यं हि न व्यथयन्त्येते पुरुषं पुरुषर्षभ ।समदुःखसुखं धीरं सोऽमृतत्वाय कल्पते ॥२- १५॥ |
yaṃ hi na vyathayantyete puruṣaṃ puruṣarṣabha ।samaduḥkhasukhaṃ dhīraṃ so'mṛtatvāya kalpate ॥2- 15॥ |
यं yam (m. acc. sg.), = whom.; हि hi, = indeed, truly.; न na, = not.; व्यथयन्त् vyathayanti (3rd pI. causative act. *vyath),= they cause to tremble, they afflict.; एते ete (m. nom. pl.), = these.; पुरुषम purusam (m. acc. sg.), = man, spirit.; पुरुषर्षभ puruṣarṣabha (m. voc. sg.) (pur!ia ~sabha), = O Man-Bull, O Bull among Men, O Leader among Men. BY cpd.; sama, = the same, equal, constant.; दुःख dukha (n.), = pain, misfortune.; सुखं sukham (n. nom. acc. sg.), = pleasure, happiness. (समदुःखसुखं samadukhasukham, m. acc. sg. BY cpd. = to whom pain and pleasure are alike.); धीरं dhiram (m. acc. sg.), = wise, wise one, wise man.; स sas (m. nom. sg.), = he, this.; ऽमृतत्वाय amrtatvaya (n. dat. sg.), = to immortality, for immortality.; कल्पते kalpate (3rd sg. pr. indic. mid . .*klp), = he is ready, he is prepared, he is fit, he is adapted. |
Because, O best among men! The wise person who treats pain and pleasure
alike and does not get deluded by the senses is certainly qualified for
liberation (Moksha) ||2-15||
