श्रीभगवानुवाच कुतस्त्वा कश्मलमिदं विषमे समुपस्थितम् ।अनार्यजुष्टमस्वर्ग्यमकीर्तिकरमर्जुन ॥२- २॥ |
śrībhagavānuvāca kutastvā kaśmalamidaṃ viṣame samupasthitam ।anāryajuṣṭamasvargyamakīrtikaramarjuna ॥2- 2॥ |
श्रीभगवानुवाच śrībhagavān (m. nom. sg.), the Blessed Lord, the Blessed One. uvaca (3rd sg. perf. act. *vac), he said, he spoke. कुत kuta (interrog.), = whence? from where? from whom? wherefore? how?; तवा tva (acc. sg.), = thee, to thee.; कश्मलम kaśmalam (n. acc. sg.), = timidity, impurity, faintheartedness.; इदम idam (n. acc. sg.), = this.; विषमे viṣame (m. n. loco sg.), = in distress, in misfortune, in difficulty, in danger.; समुपस्थितम् samupasthitam (n. acc. sg. participle sam upa.*stha), = approaching, come near to.; अनार्य anārya (adj.), not honorable, unaryan.; जुष्टम juṣṭam (n. acc. sg.), acceptable, agreeable, welcome. (anāryajuṣṭama, n. acc. sg., not suitable to an Aryan, not acceptable in an Aryan.); अस्वर्ग्यम asvargyam (n. acc. sg.), = not leading to heaven (svarga, heaven).; अकीर्ति akirti (f.), = disgrace, infamy.; करम karam (n. acc. sg.), = making, causing.(कीर्तिकरम akīrtikaram, n. acc. sg. TP cpd., causing disgrace.); अर्जुन arjuna (m. voc. sg.), = Arjuna. |
Lord Sri Krishna said: Arjuna, how did you come by such ignorance at this odd
hour? This is not the deed of a great people, nor does it bring them either fame or
Heaven! ||2-2||
[It is not wise for a person in the hour of his duty to talk of philosophy. If he acts
unwisely, then he will gain neither fame nor Heaven.]
