यदि मामप्रतीकारमशस्त्रं शस्त्रपाणयः । धार्तराष्ट्रा रणे हन्युस्तन्मे क्षेमतरं भवेत् ॥१-४६॥

jadi māmapratīkāramaśastraṁ śastrapāṇajaḣ । dhārtarāṣṭrā raṇe hanjustanme kšemataraṁ bhavet ॥1-46॥

यदि yadi, = if.; माम mam (acc. sg.), = me.; अप्रतीकारम apratīkāram (m. acc. sg. adv.from a prati *kr), = unopposing, unresisting, without remedy, without return.; अशस्त्रं asastram (n. acc. sg.), = unarmed, without weapon.; शस्त्र sastra (m.) = weapon; पाणयः panyah (m. nom. pI.) = hand (śastrapāṇayaḥ, m. nom. pI. BY cpd., = weapon armed, those armed with weapons, (as BY cpd.) whose hands are with weapons.); धार्तराष्ट्र dhārtarāṣṭrā (m. nom. pl.), the Sons ofdhārtarāṣṭrā.; रणे raṇe (~. loco sg.), = in battle, in the joy of battle.; हन्युस् hanyus (3rd pI. optative act. .*han) , = they sh1ould kill, they may kill, they might kill.; तद tad (n. nom. sg.), = that, this.; मै me (gen. sg.), = to me, of me.; क्षेमतरं kṣemataraṃ (comparative), = greater ease, greater tranquility, greater happiness.; भवेत् bhavet (3rd sg. optative act. .*bhu), = it would be.
