| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-25) |
शनैः शनैरुपरमेद् बुद्ध्या धृतिगृहीतया ।आत्मसंस्थं मनः कृत्वा न किञ्चिदपि चिन्तयेत् ॥ ६-२५॥ |
śanaiḥ śanairuparamed buddhyā dhṛtigṛhītayā । ātmasaṃsthaṃ manaḥ kṛtvā na kiñcidapi cintayet ॥ 6-25॥ |
शनैः शनै = śanaiḥ śanai (adv.), little by little, grad-ually.; उपरमेद् = uparamed (3rd sg. optative act. upa *ram), he should cease from action, he should re-nounce action, he should be quiet.; बुद्ध्या = buddhyā (f. inst. sg.), by the intelligence, with the intelligence.; धृति = dhṛti (f.), firmness, firm, firmly .; गृहीतया = gṛhītayā (f. inst. sg. p. pass. participle *grah), grasped, controlled, gripped. (dhṛtigṛhītayā, f. instr. sg. KD cpd., firmly grasped.); आत्म = atma- (m.), self, own.; संस्थं = saṃsthaṃ (m. acc. sg.), "together standing," fixed, situated together with.; मनः = manaḥ (n. acc. sg.), mind, thought.; कृत्वा = kṛtvā (gerund *kṛt), making, having made.; न = na, not.; किञ्चिद = kiñcid, anything, anything whatever.; अपि = api, even, also.; चिन्तयेत् = cintayet (3rd sg. causative optative act. *cint), he should think of, he should reflect on, he should consider. |
Completely giving up all desires arising from will and thoughts, and fully controlling the senses from all sides by the mind, and practicing gradually, one must attain the stage of trance. And by courage and firmness, the mind must be fixed on God with the help of intelligence and must not think of anything else. ||6-24,25||
