| Bhagavadgíta,-ज्ञानकर्मसंन्यासयोगः jñānakarmasaṃnyāsay, (S.-1, Ch.-4, V.-42) |
तस्मादज्ञानसम्भूतं हृत्स्थं ज्ञानासिनात्मनः । छित्त्वैनं संशयं योगमातिष्ठोत्तिष्ठ भारत ॥ ४-४२॥ |
tasmādajñānasambhūtaṃ hṛtsthaṃ jñānāsinātmanaḥ । chittvainaṃ saṃśayaṃ yogamātiṣṭhottiṣṭha bhārata ॥ 4-42॥ |
तस्माद = tasmād (m. abl. sg.), from this, therefore.; अज्ञान = ajñāna (n.), ignorance, non-knowledge.; सम्भूतं = sambhūtaṃ (m. acc. sg.), proceeding from, produced by, originating in.; हृत्स्थं = hṛtsthaṃ (m. acc. sg.), abiding in the heart, situated in the heart.; ज्ञान = jñāna (n.), knowledge.; असिन = asinā (m. ins!. sg.), by the sword, by the knife, with the knife. (ज्ञानासिन jñānāsinā, m. inst. sg., TP cpd., with the sword of knowledge.); आत्मनः = ātmanaḥ (m. gen. sg.), of the self, of thyself, own. chittviiinam samsayam yogam, having cut away this doubt, to Yoga; छित्त्व = chittva (gerund *chid), cutting away, sever- ing, having cut away, having severed.; एनम = enam (m. acc. sg.), this.; संशयं = sainsayam (m. acc. sg.), doubt, hesitation, irresolution.; योगम yogam (m. acc. sg.), Yoga, to Yoga.; अतिष्ठो atiṣṭho (2nd sg. imperative act. t'i *stha), re-sort! go towards! perform!; उत्तिष्ठ = ottiṣṭha (2nd sg. imperative act. ud *stha), stand up! arise!; भारत = bhārata (m. voc. sg.), Descendant of Bha-rata, epithet of AIjuna. |
Therefore O Bharata! Having yourself situated in Yoga cut all your doubts
born of ignorance in the heart by the sword of knowledge and stand up (to
fight). ||4-42||
