यो वायुर्वक्त्रसञ्चारी स प्राणो नाम देहधृक् | सोऽन्नं प्रवेशयत्यन्तः प्राणांश्चाप्यवलम्बते ||१३|| प्रायशः कुरुते दुष्टो हिक्काश्वासादिकान् गदान् |१४| |
| yō vāyurvaktrasañcārī [1] sa prāṇō nāma dēhadhr̥k | sō'nnaṁ pravēśayatyantaḥ prāṇāṁścāpyavalambatē ||13|| prāyaśaḥ kurutē duṣṭō hikkāśvāsādikān gadān |14| 1. ‘yō'nilō vaktrasañcārī’ iti pā.| |
| wwt यो वायु: yō vāyuḥ = Vayu which वक्त्रसञ्चारी vaktrasañcārī = moves in mouth (connected region) स प्राणो नाम sa prāṇō nāma = is called Prana देहधृक् dēhadhr̥k = (and) holds / maintains the body सोऽन्नं sō'nnaṁ = it carries food प्रवेशयत्यन्तः pravēśayatyantaḥ = enters (food) inside प्राणांश्चाप्यवलम्बते prāṇāṁścāpyavalambatē = sustains life प्रायशः prāyaśaḥ = Generally कुरुते kurutē = creates दुष्टो duṣṭō = (when in) vitiated (state) हिक्काश्वासादिकान् hikkāśvāsādikān = hiccough, dyspnoea etc. गदान् gadān = diseases |

The Vayu, that courses in (governs) the cavity of the mouth, it is called the Prana, its function being to force down the food into the cavity of the stomach, and to assist the different vitalising principles of the body (such as the internal heat or fire etc.) in discharging their functions in life, and to contribute to the In general sustenance of the body. A deranged condition of this particular kind of Vayu (Prana) is usually followed by hic-cough, dyspnoea and other kindred distempers. |
